Gear that grows with the tower

Your hero wears four pieces: a helmet, armor, a weapon and a charm. Each slot has its own main stat, and the rarity decides how much of it you get. Try a set on the right and watch the damage bar.

Slots and rarities

The slot sets the stat, the rarity sets the size

The weapon adds damage, the armor adds health, the helmet adds time, and the charm adds loot. Every item also carries a smaller second stat. On armor it is always damage, so damage comes from exactly two slots.

There are four rarities: Plain, Sturdy, Trophy and Legendary. A full Plain set fills 40% of the tower’s ceiling, Sturdy 70%, Trophy all of it. Legendary goes a quarter past that, and each legendary piece you wear lifts the ceiling by 6.25%.

Starter gear adds nothing. It is the bare hero the rest of the game is balanced against.

Chests and keys

A key for every chest

Tap a chest to open it. In the game, a chest without its key opens for crystals instead.

  • Cache

    Bronze key

Block chests on towers 1 and 2.

  • Forged

    Iron key

Block chests from tower 3, the weekly reward and the season path.

  • Trophy

    Gold key

Bosses from tower 2 on. Each drops a piece of its tower’s set.

  • Legendary

    Diamond key

Step 40 of the season and the tournament champion. Premium adds more on the season path.

Shards and the workshop

No chest is wasted

A duplicate turns into shards. In the workshop, shards craft the item you choose, so a run of bad luck still adds up to the piece you wanted.

Every item carries the tier of the tower it came from. The workshop can upgrade an item’s tier for shards and crystals, up to the tower your hero stands on. Boss set pieces stay at their own tower’s tier.

Questions

Gear, answered

Keys, duplicates, tiers and legendary items.

What if I don’t have the right key?

Every chest has its own key. Without it, the chest still opens straight away for crystals.

What happens to duplicates?

A duplicate becomes shards. In the workshop you spend shards to craft the item you pick yourself, or to upgrade an item you already have.

Is a piece from the first tower useless later?

An item carries the tier of the tower it came from, and its bonuses grow with that tier. A duplicate from a higher tower raises the tier of the one you have, and the workshop can upgrade it up to the tower your hero is on.

Where do legendary items come from?

Only from legendary chests: the season path and the tournament. Each legendary piece you wear also lifts the ceiling on your total bonus.
