A push-up counter thatturns reps into hits

Pushgard counts push-ups with your phone’s front camera. Stand the phone up in front of you, screen facing you, and start the set. It watches your arms and shoulders, and a rep counts only when both reach depth and you come back up. Every counted rep hits the monster in front of you.

Strict by design

Why half reps don’t count

Duels with strangers are only fair if the count is just as strict for everyone.

Two separate signals have to agree on every push-up. Your arms fold, so your hands come closer to your shoulders, and your shoulders look wider as your chest comes closer to the camera. A shallow rep moves one of them and not the other, so it doesn’t pass.

The counter learns where your top position is from the first second of the set, while you hold the plank. Depth is then measured against your own body.

Your video stays on the phone

The pose model runs on the device and turns each frame into 33 body points. The counter only sees those points. The camera image is not uploaded anywhere.

If a rep did not count, here is what the camera missed and how to fix it. Before your first set, check where to put your phone.

The Pushgard tower screen: the hero’s place on the tower, the steps left and the boss in the arch.
More than a counter

Your reps climb a tower

Each counted rep is a hit, and each beaten monster moves your hero one step up the tower. A block of eight steps has six fights, a chest and a boss at the top. Reps also earn gear, a place in the weekly league and duels with friends.

You can lock distracting apps too, and open them with minutes earned by reps.

Questions

Before your first counted set

Phone placement, privacy and the cases where it won’t count.

Does it count half reps?

No. Two signals have to agree on every push-up: your arms fold far enough, and your shoulders look wider because you came closer to the camera. A shallow rep moves one of them and not the other, so it does not count.

Where do I put the phone?

For push-ups and squats the phone stands in front of you with the screen facing you; for squats your whole height has to be in the frame. For crunches and plank it stands to your side, at hip level.

Is my camera video uploaded?

No. The pose model runs on the phone and turns each frame into 33 body points. The counter works on those points, and the camera image stays on your phone.

When does it not count?

When the camera cannot see what it measures. For push-ups that is your shoulders and elbows, for squats your whole body. If the phone falls over or you leave the frame, the reps in between are not counted.

Is it free?

Yes. The tower, the arena and fair duels are open without a subscription, and there are no ads. Premium adds a second hero and extra chests. It never changes how reps are counted.
